Cattle Rearers Ask FG to Address Grazing Routes Ahead Farming Season
By Najibullah Adamu
As rains begin, Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has tasked federal and state governments to demarcate and protect grazing routes nationwide ahead of the 2026/2027 farming season.
The association highlighted that unmapped route fuel farmer-herder clashes, threatening food security.
In a statement issued to newsmen by National President of the association, Khalil Bello, said insecurity, rising fuel costs and expensive farming inputs have already disrupted arable and livestock production, displacing millions nationwide.
The association urged herders to avoid farmland destruction during grazing or migration, stressing that “protecting crops is protecting Nigeria’s food supply.”
It also called on farmers to stop encroaching on designated grazing reserves and blocking recognized cattle routes.
KACRAN said restraint and mutual respect between both groups are needed to safeguard food production amid severe economic challenges and persistent conflicts.
“Herders and farmers are partners in progress, sustainable peace can only be achieved when both groups operate within the law,” Khalil said.
The group commended Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni for reducing tractor hire costs from ₦100,000 to ₦50,000 per day and for commitment to reclaiming grazing reserves.
KACRAN also praised the L-PRES programme for converting boreholes to solar power and appealed to the World Bank and Yobe State to increase funding for the initiative.
