Ummah University Names Kumshe Acting Vice-Chancellor Ahead of Take-Off

The Governing Council of Ummah University of Nigeria, Abuja, has appointed Professor Ahmed Modu Kumshe as the institution’s Acting Vice-Chancellor as the university prepares for a new phase of development.

Professor Kumshe, a Professor of Accounting and Finance at the University of Maiduguri, will assume office on October 1, 2026, subject to relevant laws and regulatory requirements.

His appointment was announced in a statement signed by the university’s Founder and Pro-Chancellor, Dr Mohammed Kyari Dikwa.

The new Acting Vice-Chancellor is expected to provide strategic leadership as the university strengthens its administration, academic programmes, financial management and institutional structures.

The university said his appointment was part of its commitment to building a leadership structure anchored on academic excellence, integrity, innovation and accountability.

Professor Kumshe has held several academic and administrative positions at the University of Maiduguri, including Head of the Department of Accounting, Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences and Deputy Director of the Centre for Distance Learning.

He also served as Registrar and Chief Executive of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and was a member of its Governing Council.

Before his appointment, Kumshe chaired the Planning and Implementation Committee of Ummah University, where he was involved in the processes that culminated in the establishment and licensing of the institution.

The Governing Council expressed confidence that his experience would help position the university for a successful take-off and sustainable growth.

It congratulated Professor Kumshe on his appointment and expressed optimism about his leadership as Ummah University begins an important stage in its development.
