Borno elder statesman and founder of Al-Ansar Foundation, Dr Mohammed Kyari Dikwa, has commended Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for investments in healthcare and education, describing the projects as major milestones in the state’s recovery and development.
Mr Dikwa made the commendation in a congratulatory letter to the governor following the commissioning of the 400-bed Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital and other educational facilities in Borno State.
In the letter made available to Northeast Star Magazine in Abuja, Mr Dikwa said the hospital would expand access to specialist medical services, strengthen medical education and help address the shortage of qualified healthcare professionals in Borno and the wider North-east.
He described the hospital and associated educational projects as enduring achievements of the Zulum administration.
“The successful completion and commissioning of the magnificent 400-bed Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital, alongside other landmark educational projects, represents an extraordinary achievement that will undoubtedly remain one of the most enduring legacies of your administration,” he said.
According to Mr Dikwa, the teaching hospital features diagnostic facilities, 13 specialist departments, a medical college complex, student accommodation and staff housing.
He said the infrastructure would improve healthcare delivery and reduce the burden on residents who travel outside the state to obtain specialised medical treatment.
The Al-Ansar Foundation founder also noted that the hospital could serve patients beyond Borno, including those from other parts of the North-east and neighbouring countries in the Lake Chad region.
“Of particular significance is the potential of this remarkable institution to substantially reduce medical tourism, improve access to specialised healthcare, strengthen medical education and address the shortage of qualified healthcare professionals across Borno State, the North-East and neighbouring countries within the Lake Chad region,” he said.
Mr Dikwa, who also founded Al-Ansar University in Maiduguri, said the facility could provide opportunities for medical training, research and collaboration among healthcare institutions.
He described the investment as more than the construction of a hospital, saying its long-term benefits would include better access to quality treatment and the training of skilled medical personnel.
Education and social inclusion
The foundation also praised Mr Zulum for commissioning the Yerwa Practice Mega Primary School and other educational facilities aimed at supporting orphans and vulnerable children.
Mr Dikwa said the initiatives demonstrated the government’s commitment to human capital development, social inclusion and expanding educational opportunities for disadvantaged children.
He commended the governor for implementing development projects despite the security and humanitarian challenges facing Borno State.
“What makes your leadership truly exceptional is your ability to transform vision into reality, promises into tangible achievements, and public resources into institutions that directly improve the lives of ordinary citizens,” he said.
According to him, the projects are helping to establish the foundation for a healthier, better-educated and more self-reliant state.
He added that the investments in healthcare and education would benefit both current residents and future generations.
Mr Dikwa also prayed for Allah to grant the governor good health and wisdom, reward his contributions to Borno State and enable him to achieve further successes before the end of his tenure.
“May He bless your remaining tenure with even greater accomplishments, preserve your honour and dignity, and make your legacy a source of lasting benefit to the people of Borno State and humanity at large,” he said.
He concluded by expressing the foundation’s appreciation for the governor’s efforts to rebuild and transform the state.
