4 NYSC Members, Soldier Killed in Adamawa Road Crash

A tragic road accident in Adamawa State has claimed the lives of four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and a Nigerian Army personnel following a collision involving a military gun truck and a commercial Hummer bus.

The fatal crash occurred on Wednesday, at about 1:50 p.m. in Narehi village, along the border between Song and Girei Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

Jewel Post reports that the accident involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi towards Yola and a commercial Hummer bus conveying passengers from Yola to Mubi.

Eyewitnesses, including a transporter from Song LGA, Nuruddeen Tahir, and commercial driver Isa Umaru Bara, confirmed the incident.

Meanwhile, reacting to the development in a statement, the spokesperson of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said preliminary investigations indicated that both vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.

“The Adamawa State Police Command regrets to confirm a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on June 3, 2026, at about 1:50 p.m. along the Narehi area of Girei-Song LGAs,” the statement read.

The police spokesman disclosed that the impact of the collision caused the commercial bus to overturn and burst into flames.

“Tragically, all five occupants of the Hummer bus were burnt to death after the vehicle caught fire following the collision,” he said.

Preliminary identification revealed that four of the victims were serving NYSC members posted to Adamawa State.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Suleiman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both indigenes of Kaduna State, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining victims.

Police operatives, working alongside other emergency responders, promptly arrived at the scene and evacuated the bodies to the Specialist Hospital in Yola.

The command said investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the accident, while efforts are being made to identify the remaining victims and contact their families.

The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Kabiru Umar Hassan, extended his condolences to the families of the deceased, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the National Youth Service Corps, and all others affected by the tragedy.

The police urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent similar incidents.
