2027: Gombe Group Backs Pantami, Says State Needs New Direction

By Auwal Umar, Gombe

The Gombe Forward Movement Concepts (GFMC) has endorsed Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami as its preferred candidate for the 2027 Gombe State governorship election, saying his experience and background could help drive a new direction for the state.

The group made its position known on Sunday during its unveiling in Gombe, where its leader, Ms. Monica Yahaya Kaltho, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, announced her decision to step down from the race and support Prof. Pantami.

Ms. Kaltho said the decision was taken in the interest of political unity and the broader development of Gombe State.

The group described the endorsement as a demonstration of political maturity and a willingness to place the collective interest of the state above individual political ambitions.

“Beyond personal ambition, this is about the future of Gombe State,” GFMC said in its communiqué.

The organisation said its support for Prof. Pantami was not limited to its leadership, claiming that it had built a grassroots network involving women, youths, community leaders and other stakeholders across the state.

According to the group, its structure extends from the state level to the 11 local government areas, wards and polling units, which it said would enable it to mobilise support for its preferred candidate ahead of the 2027 election.

GFMC said its activities are guided by the principles of empowering women, equipping youths and elevating communities.

The group said Prof. Pantami’s record in public service, education, technology and digital transformation influenced its decision to back him.

It argued that his experience could be useful in advancing human capital development, innovation, economic opportunities, youth empowerment and women’s advancement in Gombe.

The organisation called on its members, supporters and other residents of the state to unite behind Prof. Pantami and participate actively and peacefully in the democratic process.

It also urged its supporters to work towards the success of Prof. Pantami in the 2027 governorship election, describing the endorsement as a decision focused on the future of Gombe State rather than individual political interests.
